More about Danny
'I never thought I'd be here,' Danny says. 'I don't think it was so much low confidence, more that I'm a quiet person, not in your face. I knew I wanted to be in a band, but I didn't think I'd be picked for a TV series.' Like the others, Danny has pledged not to let fame rush to his head. He wants to keep both feet firmly on the ground, whatever happens around him. He believes he can safeguard elements of his old life, however much he is in the spotlight.
'I'm not really worried about the fame thing,' he says. 'It will be interesting to do good music and be successful for that. I'd rather be known for my music than anything else.'
During his first few weeks in the house he has managed to slip back home to East London to spend time with his family and friends. Leaving the cocoon of the Popstars house, even briefly, has been good for him.
'We're not exactly in a bubble but we're in a strange environment and there's a lot we can't do - like go out together. It's good to step away from that now and then.'
On one trip home Danny rode the Tube wondering how much longer he would be able
to move around London unnoticed on public transport.
'It's weird,' he says. 'But I think it is possible to stay true to yourself. At one stage at the auditions I wondered if I should be jumping in front of the cameras to get noticed. But what's the point of that? It's such an immense pressure if you're going to put on an act.' He grins. 'And even though I didn't say much I still got here, which is cool, and I'm proud of that.' Danny's life is already starting to change. One major breakthrough is that he has learned to use an iron! 'I never normally wear shirts but I got one the night we went to An Audience With Ricky Martin,' he says. 'It was brand new in a packet and all creased. I had to ring my Nan to find out how to iron it. It took me 40 minutes and it was still all creased!'
Housework is not a problem, however. Danny's old job as an office cleaner stands him in good stead. 'I'm not afraid of that. We all just do our bit. There's no rota or anything.' He cannot cook, though. 'It's not my strong point. If I did it they'd all go down with food poisoning,' he says. Noel's brilliant. He did this amazing pasta dish the other night. I thought it was from M & S - that's how good it was!'
Danny was thinking about training as a teacher when he discovered he could sing. The teaching went on the back burner while he started going to auditions. 'I knew I wanted to teach from an early age,' he says, 'and I know it's always something I can go back to.'
He is in a serious relationship. He has been with his girlfriend Chloe, a media studies student, for three years. The pair speak daily on the phone but with Danny in the band, and Chloe at university, their time together is precious.
'Everything is really cool,' he says. 'I'm just Danny to her. She's not fazed by any of this.
We've every intention of staying together and I think we will.' Noel follows, recording the interruption on a neat little video camera. Myleene arrives with a stills camera.
'Excuse me,' Noel says, bearing down on Danny with the video camera. 'Just how interesting has all this been?'
